For my second project experiment, I will be utilizing the same analytical argument essay from English 125 that I used in my first experiment as my base for reformation. The essay is centered on a photograph of the decrepit Domino Sugar Factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in the hours before dawn. While most of the picture is dark, the factory is partially illuminated by moonlight poking through the clouds as well as cars driving on the nearby Williamsburg Bridge. In the analysis component of the original paper, I argued that the light represents improving opportunity and development in the once shoddy and misfortune area. Paralleling this, I later delved into how the Factory has been re-purposed as a multi-use facility, the adjacent waterfront has been modernized into a recreational area, and the surrounding neighborhoods have flourished with newfound work, housing, and cultural immersion.

Being that the area used to be run-down and impoverished, then it later turned around completely when the Factory was restreuctured, I decided to re-purpose this paper into an Architectural Digest Opinion article that highlights the Factory’s new interior as well as the surrounding exterior land. This idea stems from the growing stack of 20+ Architectural Digest Magazines atop the coffee table in the living room of the house I grew up in. It was not until my senior year of high school that I turned off ESPN on the living room TV and finally quenched the curiosity that was fueled by blankly staring at the stack for years. Beyond looking at the beautiful houses, I especially got a kick out of the opinion section; Architectural Digest’s writers were all strongly opinionated, critical, witty, and pleasantly blunt- traits I admire and try to implement into my writing.

I am going to share my perspective on the monumental construction project that is cleaning up the waterfront adjacent to the Williamsburg Bridge- beyond the factory’s interior, the exterior was re purposed to lure in families, tourists, and civic engagement.
